description Description

The nnatural decomposer fungi contribute a pivotal role in balancing the ecosystem: the production of alcohol, enzymes, antibiotics, organic acids, and bakery products from ancient times to the modern era. They are also involved in cleaning up the environment through bioremediation. They serve as plant and animal pathogens too. Hence, they are industrially as well as medically important. In order to identify, select and cultivate the fungi in the laboratory, suitable media are essential. Media provide the nutrients for the growth of the fungi. Thus, the composition of the media regulates the fungal growth and its colony characteristics. Again, carbon and nitrogen sources of the media are critical to develop a product from a specific fungus. This present study emphasises the importance of the chemical composition of the various fungal media regarding fungal growth and manufacturing products.
